The People Behind Living in Indonesia

Living in Indonesia first went online in 1997, making it one of Indonesia’s longest-running English-language resources for expatriates. What began as a simple idea shared by a small group of dedicated individuals grew into a trusted source of information for thousands of expatriates, international families, business people, students, and visitors to Indonesia.

Over the years, hundreds of people have contributed articles, advice, photographs, technical expertise, and local knowledge to help make the website the valuable community resource it became. We would like to recognize those who helped shape its history.

The Founding Committee (1997)

The original committee that conceived, developed, and launched the Living in Indonesia website in 1997:

  • Danielle Surkatty – Chief Editor and Director of Content
  • Gene Sugandy – Chief of Graphic Arts and Aesthetics
  • Yadi Suryadi – Chief Web Magician, Guru and Techie King
  • Sudjiwo, Adi, and Edwin – Continual Technical Support from Indonet
  • Lisa Kumaradjaja – Overseas Consultant
  • Sanjaya – Sponsor and Supporter
  • Rasmo A. Haryawirasma – Former Promoter

As we joked back then… “All chiefs and no Indians!”
