1. About these terms

Expat.or.id (“the Site”, “we”, “us”) is an independent information resource for expatriates living in, moving to, or considering Indonesia. It has been published continuously since September 1997.

By accessing the Site you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

2. The information here is general, not advice

This is the most important clause on this page. Please read it.

Everything published on expat.or.id is general information only. It is not legal advice, immigration advice, tax advice, medical advice, financial advice, or professional advice of any kind. It is not a substitute for consulting a qualified professional who can assess your specific circumstances.

This applies with particular force to our coverage of:

• Visas, KITAS, KITAP and immigration matters. Indonesian immigration regulations change frequently, are applied differently between offices, and depend heavily on your nationality, sponsor and purpose of stay.
• Tax and financial obligations. Including NPWP registration, residency status, and cross-border taxation.
• Company establishment and employment law. Including PT PMA, RPTKA and work permits.
• Medical and health information. Nothing on this Site should be used to diagnose, treat or delay treatment of any condition.

Always verify current requirements with the relevant Indonesian government authority, or engage a licensed professional, before acting.

3. Accuracy and currency

We date every article and review our highest-stakes guides on a fixed cycle. Despite this, regulations, fees, opening hours, contact details and business circumstances change without notice, and some information will inevitably be out of date at the moment you read it.

We make no warranty that any information on the Site is accurate, complete, current or fit for any purpose. If you find something wrong, please tell us and we will correct it.

4. Directory listings and third-party businesses

The Site includes directories of schools, hospitals, clinics, service providers, agencies and other businesses.

• A listing is not an endorsement, recommendation or warranty of that business.
• We do not verify licences, qualifications, insurance or fitness to practise.
• We are not a party to any contract, transaction or dispute between you and a listed business.
• Ratings and reviews reflect the opinions of individual contributors, not our own assessment.

You are responsible for your own due diligence before engaging any business found through this Site.

5. Advertising and sponsorship

The Site is free to read and is funded by advertising and sponsorship. We accept sponsorship from organisations with a long-standing good reputation in the expatriate community.

• Sponsorship and advertising do not constitute an endorsement of any product, service or organisation.
• Sponsored content is clearly labelled as such.
• Advertising does not influence our editorial judgement, our directory listings, or the content of our guides.
• We are not responsible for the content, claims, products or services of any advertiser.

6. External links

The Site links to third-party websites for your convenience. We do not control those sites, do not endorse their content, and are not responsible for their accuracy, availability, security or privacy practices. Following an external link is at your own risk.

7. Contributions from readers

You may submit corrections, comments, testimonials, review content, questions or article contributions. When you do:

• You confirm the submission is your own work, or that you have the right to submit it.
• You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual licence to publish, edit, adapt, translate and archive it on the Site and in related material.
• You accept that we may edit for length, clarity, accuracy or house style, or decline to publish, at our discretion.
• You must not submit anything unlawful, defamatory, misleading, discriminatory, infringing, or written primarily to promote a business.

We do not pay for contributions unless separately agreed in writing.

8. Intellectual property

All content on the Site — text, guides, photographs, graphics, layout, the site name and logo — is owned by us or our contributors and is protected by copyright and trade mark law.

You may read, print and share individual pages for personal, non-commercial use. You may quote briefly with clear attribution and a link.

You may not, without our prior written permission: republish substantial portions of the Site; scrape, harvest or bulk-copy our content; use our content to train machine-learning or generative AI systems; use our content for any commercial purpose; or remove attribution or copyright notices.

9. Acceptable use

You must not:

• Use the Site for any unlawful purpose or in breach of Indonesian law.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Site, its servers, or any connected system.
• Introduce malware, or interfere with the Site’s operation or availability.
• Use automated systems to access the Site in a way that imposes an unreasonable load.
• Impersonate any person, or misrepresent your affiliation with any organisation.
• Harvest personal data of other users, contributors or listed businesses.

10. Availability

We aim to keep the Site available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may suspend, withdraw or restrict all or part of the Site without notice, and may remove or amend any content at any time.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by Indonesian law:

• The Site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
• We are not liable for any loss or damage — including visa refusals, immigration penalties, financial loss, business loss, loss of data, or personal injury — arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Site or anything found through it.
• We are not liable for the acts, omissions, products or services of any third party listed, linked or advertised on the Site.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against any claim, loss or expense arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of the Site, or content you submit to us.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always the one published on this page, with the date shown at the top. Continued use of the Site after a change constitutes acceptance.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Indonesia. Any dispute arising from them will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Jakarta, Indonesia.
