Indonesian visa services have moved to a fully digital framework managed by the Directorate General of Immigration (Direktorat Jenderal Imigrasi) under the Ministry of Law. Most applications, including the B1 Tourist e-Visa, Visa on Arrival (e-VOA), and stay permit extensions, are now processed through the official e-Visa portal at evisa.imigrasi.go.id where applicants can explore visa types, prepare required documents, pay visa fees by SIMPONI or card, and track application status online.

Visa Types and Eligibility

The Indonesia e-Visa is an official electronic entry permit, with the B1 Tourist Visa as the most common type, available to passport holders from many countries including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the US, UK, Australia, and Canada. It allows a stay of up to 30 days, is valid for entry within 3 months of issuance, and permits single entry; it can be extended once for an additional 30 days, for a maximum stay of 60 days for tourism purposes.

Citizens of many countries also have visa-free access for short stays of up to 30 days for tourism, family visits, or cultural events, while Visa on Arrival remains available for citizens of 97 eligible countries, granting 30 days with one 30-day extension for a total of 60 days, at a fee of 500,000 IDR (plus service fees), with the same fee applying on extension.

A major structural change is the “Single Visa” principle: under Permenkumham 22/2023, a foreigner may hold only one valid visa at a time, with all sub-categories nested under either a Visit Visa or a Limited Stay Visa (ITAS).

General Requirements

Applicants should prepare clear digital documents, including a passport valid for at least 6 months with a clearly visible photo, personal details, and machine-readable zone. Immigration may also request proof of accommodation and a return or onward ticket showing departure from Indonesia.

Arrival Procedures

A unified digital declaration system integrates immigration, customs, and health declarations into a single online form via allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id or the “All Indonesia” QR code, to be completed within 3 days before arrival. After submission, travelers receive a QR code for use at immigration and customs, with a payment link for purchasing Visa on Arrival in advance where applicable.

Extensions and Biometrics

Visa extensions now operate under a digital hybrid framework combining online applications through the official portal (also known as Molina) with mandatory in-person verification for biometric processing. Since May 2025, Circular IMI-417.GR.01.01/2025 mandates an in-person visit for all stay permit extensions, whether for a tourist Visa on Arrival or a working KITAS.

Sponsor-Based Applications

Certain travel document types — including refugee travel documents, Document of Identity, Certificate of Identity, emergency travel documents, and alien passports — require an application through a registered sponsor/guarantor and cannot be filed independently. Some nationalities also require a corporate guarantor and mandatory interview at the Directorate General of Immigration in Jakarta before approval.

Rejection Grounds

Visa applications may still be rejected for reasons including incomplete documentation, inclusion on an immigration blacklist, suspected involvement in international crime, security or public order concerns, prior deportation from Indonesia, or being subject to extradition requests. Visa fees are non-refundable if an application is rejected due to prior immigration violations or inaccurate information.

For the latest details, applicants should consult the official e-Visa portal at evisa.imigrasi.go.id.
