Nord Anglia School Jakarta, commonly known as NAS Jakarta, is a small international school in South Jakarta offering education for children from 18 months through Year 7. Its relatively intimate size is one of its main points of difference. Average classes have approximately 16 students, enabling teachers to become familiar with each child’s personality, interests, strengths and areas where additional support may be needed.
The school has a long history in Jakarta. It began in 1967 as the Netherlands Inter-community School and originally served Jakarta’s Dutch-speaking community. It later developed into a broader international school and became part of the Nord Anglia Education group in 2017. The school still offers a Dutch language and culture programme, making it particularly attractive to Dutch and Dutch-speaking families who want their children to maintain a connection with their language and cultural heritage.
NAS Jakarta combines the English National Curriculum with the International Primary Curriculum and an inquiry-based approach to learning. As part of the Nord Anglia network, students also participate in the organisation’s Global Campus activities and benefit from international educational collaborations. The school places considerable emphasis on student wellbeing, creativity, confidence and personal development alongside traditional academic subjects.
The campus is another distinguishing feature. Despite being located in a busy part of Jakarta, the school occupies a quiet, leafy site with extensive outdoor areas. This creates a more relaxed, community-oriented atmosphere than families may find at some of the city’s larger international schools.
