“An inclusive ecumenical community”
Who We Are
Jakarta Community Church is a multicultural, interdenominational Christian congregation that welcomes people of all nationalities, backgrounds, and denominations. The congregation includes worshippers from Protestant, Catholic, Anglican, and other Christian traditions.
Founded in 1953, the church was established to provide English-language worship, Christian education, fellowship, and community service for Jakarta’s growing international community. From its beginning, Jakarta Community Church has welcomed “people of any nation, race or creed.”
Jakarta Community Church operates in partnership with GPIB Effatha Church, which provides facilities and local institutional support for the congregation’s activities.
Worship Services
Inclusive and participatory worship services are held every Sunday at 10:00 am in the Fellowship Hall of Effatha Church in Blok M.
Holy Communion, open to all attendees, is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month.
The church encourages participation from members of the congregation in worship leadership, readings, music, and other service activities. Visiting clergy and lay leaders from Indonesia and abroad regularly contribute to worship services.
Informal coffee fellowship after the service provides an opportunity for members and visitors to connect and build friendships within the community.
Sunday School and Child Care
A Christian education program for school-age children is held during Sunday worship using internationally recognized teaching materials.
Child care is also available during Sunday services in a safe and welcoming environment for younger children.
Bible Study and Discussion Groups
Bible study and discussion groups meet regularly to explore Christian teachings, discuss contemporary issues, and deepen spiritual understanding within a supportive community environment.
The church also occasionally hosts discussions and presentations on social issues and topics relevant to life in Indonesia and the international community.
Community and Outreach
Jakarta Community Church has traditionally supported outreach activities and charitable projects that encourage positive community development and empowerment.
Community lunches and fellowship gatherings are organized throughout the year, providing opportunities for newcomers and long-term residents to connect socially.
The church also supports members through pastoral care, prayer support, counseling, and assistance during important life events such as births, marriages, baptisms, illness, and bereavement.
Music Ministry
Music plays an important role in the worship life of Jakarta Community Church. Choir members, singers, and musicians help lead congregational worship and introduce a variety of worship traditions and music styles.
Musicians and singers interested in participating are welcomed into the music ministry.
Getting Involved
Jakarta Community Church recognizes that many expatriates and international residents may only be in Indonesia temporarily. The church encourages participation at whatever level individuals feel comfortable, whether for a short stay in Jakarta or as a longer-term spiritual home.
Visitors and newcomers are welcome to attend services, fellowship events, Bible studies, and community activities.
Location and Accessibility
The church is located within the prominent Effatha Church complex in Blok M, South Jakarta, near Pasaraya Grande shopping center.
The location is easily accessible via MRT Jakarta through Blok M BCA Station and is within walking distance of many restaurants, shops, and transportation connections in the Blok M area.
Parking is generally available from Jalan Melawai, and additional parking may be available at nearby shopping facilities.
Leadership
Jakarta Community Church is administered by a church board elected annually from among members of the congregation. Members of the board may be contacted through the church office.
Jakarta Community Church welcomes all who wish to share in worship, fellowship, and service. Whether Jakarta is your permanent home, a temporary assignment, or simply a stop along the way, the congregation invites you to become part of its international community.
