Welcome! Selamat Datang! Haere Mai!

The New Zealand School Jakarta (NZSJ) is a progressive, growing international school situated in the heart of Kemang in South Jakarta. At NZSJ, we believe that happy children are more confident learners.

NZSJ is open to students of all nationalities starting from age 6 months. Our community represents over 20 nationalities and we would love for this number to keep growing! We consider our multinational nature to be one of the largest assets of our community. We foster a global perspective and welcome students and teachers from all over the world. We value international mindedness and celebrate different cultures and languages.

We employ the Te Whariki Curriculum for our Early Years programme, which is the New Zealand framework for Early Years education. Children learn through play and the 5 key strands which we believe set the foundation for learning are: wellbeing, belonging, communication, contribution and exploration.

In Primary and Secondary, we follow the New Zealand Curriculum supported by internationally recognised, Pearson Edexcel. Our academic programme offers an inquiry-based and holistic approach to education, promoted through the learning areas of English, the Arts, Health and Physical Education, Learning Languages, Mathematics and Statistics, Science, Social Studies and Technology. We consider that the holistic nature of this curriculum offers our children a solid foundation that will set them up for success as they grow, explore and contribute to this world.

We project that we will continue to grow for the next several years.

At NJIS, we recognize that children come to us with unique experiences, backgrounds, abilities, and interests. We provide a balanced education program within a safe environment so that each child can learn and grow to his or her greatest potential.

Principal - Mrs. Shelley Gibson

Regality Academy is an international standard primary school located in South-Central Jakarta. Our learning community totals approximately 110 students represented by 18 nationalities from Kindergarten 1 to Junior High school. We feel this mix of nationalities and cultures provides the foundation for internationally minded students, which is essential to fulfilling our vision as a school.

This vision is further supported by our internationally diverse teaching team, as well as our curriculum, the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) and International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC) in Junior High, along with Pearson i-Lower Secondary heading to IGCSE in grades 9 and 10. The IPC can be found in over 1,800 schools in over 90 countries around the world. Using the IPC, and IMYC we aim to fulfil our mission of equipping our students with 21st-century skills to prepare them to be creative, critical thinkers, ready for the challenges of the rapidly changing world.

At Regality Academy, as a part of our philosophy of learning, we believe that each learner is unique. We seek to actively engage our learners in rigorous learning experiences that challenge them at their development levels, focusing on fundamental knowledge and skills, as well as pushing our students to adapt, collaborate, and innovate.

We believe in a holistic approach to education, meaning that as a school, we aim to develop the whole child, not simply focusing on core academic subjects. Specialist classes in primary include Music, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Art, Mandarin, and Physical Education and Bahasa Indonesia. Students also attend a variety of Enrichment Activities, after school, to ensure a range of learning opportunities for our students. With a minimum of two homeroom teachers per class, students have access to a lot of adult support.

We intentionally cultivate the character of our students through the IPC/IMYC Personal Goals, as well as leadership skills, through our implementation of 'The Leader In Me' program.  Our school get a lot of leadership opportunities.  RGA feels like a large family, students feel they belong and they flourish. This gives our students a distinct advantage.

Located in a beautifully scenic campus outside the hustle and bustle of the city center, MIS was originally founded in 1969 to provide a holistic education to the children of the US and UK Consulates. In a green, peaceful, and stimulating environment, students are challenged through our high academic standards and also learn to build strong character. The MIS student profile is central to all of our teaching and learning and students learn on a daily basis to be inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective individuals with the constant support and guidance of highly qualified and experienced teachers, all of whom are qualified to teach in their home countries. The majority of our teachers also hold Master’s degrees in their fields and have an average of over ten years’ experience each. Class sizes are kept small to ensure every child gets the focused attention they deserve and the school has less than one hundred students in total from Preschool to Senior High.

With our full-size football field, swimming pool, and gym, our students also have access to the best sporting and health facilities in Medan. These facilities are also freely open to parents, families, and friends on the weekends when MIS becomes a hub for the local and international community. Our library, Medan’s largest collection of English language books, is also second to none and classrooms are fully equipped with the latest resources from overseas. Transportation is available from various locations around Medan. Levels - Montessori to year 11, British Curriculum School
Enrollment 130 (and growing steadily)
School Principal - Nick Rowdene

We are the only school in Surabaya that combines Montessori education for students from ages 3-6, the Cambridge curriculum and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) for junior school, and the Cambridge International Key Stage 3 and IGCSE education for secondary school students. The combination of inquiry-based learning and internationally-recognised, rigorous academic standards offered by these programmes provides an excellent framework for our students’ personal and academic development.

Our well-qualified and experienced teaching team is made up of expatriate native English speakers and bilingual Indonesian nationals. SES graduates go on to study A levels, IB Diploma, High School Diploma and Advanced Placement (AP) courses in the USA, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Indonesia or their home country institutions. Many of these students continue their University studies in the same countries. Our alumni have transitioned to UWCSEA, Phillips Academy in Andover, USA and prominent schools in Australia.

Our school is housed in the attractive Pakuwon Indah Residential Estate in West Surabaya. The surroundings provide a natural and safe environment for students’ learning. All our classrooms are air-conditioned and well resourced, with a science laboratory and primary and secondary computer suites. The campus, with a gymnasium, swimming pool, dance studio, table tennis facilities, a football field, tennis courts and play areas enables students to enjoy the benefits of active, outdoor learning.

More about the Indonesian Education System

In the mid-1990s, the Indonesian Department of Education and Culture began to open opportunities for the development of what were at that time termed "national plus schools". Categories have now changed and all schools must be one of the following three categories:

  1. National schools - offering the national curriculum only
  2. Embassy schools - offering the curriculum from the home country and accessible only to citizens from that country - what we formerly referred to as "international schools".
  3. SPK schools - offering overseas programmes such as the IB but using elements of the national curriculum. SPK stands for Satuan Pendidikan Kerjasama - Cooperative Education unit. They must have a direct tie with an overseas school or an overseas educational authority. Admission is open to expatriate children and some of these schools offer international curriculum and English as the medium of instruction. They are a great alternative to the more expensive embassy schools for expatriates whose companies will not cover the cost of education, as well as for the children of mixed Indonesian-expat marriages.

Enrollment in most Indonesian schools begins in April of each year for July admission.
